X Museum

X Museum is located on the second floor of Taikoo Li Qiantan shopping mall in Shanghai—if you don't look carefully, you might easily miss it. According to the front desk staff, X Museum currently has only two locations: one in Beijing and one in Shanghai.

With a mission to research and promote Chinese contemporary culture and international exchange, it was founded in 2020 by collectors Michael Xufu Huang and Theresa Xie Qirun. X Museum focuses on creators working across diverse media and multidisciplinary backgrounds, with an eye toward the future of culture and art. Through various spatial formats, it connects emerging artists from different countries and regions, striving to become an international exchange platform from the perspective of the younger generation. The museum also aims to develop alongside the local urban community, promoting audience sharing and exchange through the collection and interpretation of both material and immaterial culture.

The "X" represents the intersection of two lines, symbolizing the infinite possibilities of cross-disciplinary intellectual exchange. Upholding a rigorous academic attitude and experimental, innovative thinking, X Museum focuses on emerging Chinese and international artistic forces within a global context, while also encompassing creative practices from other fields. Its goal is to create an art institution dedicated to new cultures and ideas.

Current Exhibition: "When I Wake within Sleep."

From December 20, 2025, to March 15, 2026, X Museum at Taikoo Li Qiantan Shanghai is presenting an exhibition titled "When I Wake within Sleep," featuring twelve works created this year by Thai artist Gongkan. The exhibition primarily consists of acrylic paintings on canvas, along with a few installation pieces.

Gongkan's paintings evoke a sense of soft, clean, and dreamlike colors, which perfectly align with the exhibition's theme. Scenes that could only appear in dreams are presented in the style of children's picture books, expressing explorations and pursuits of life's important themes such as "love," "freedom," "growth," "hope," and "home"—allowing viewers to achieve a certain sense of inner peace.

Admission Policy

Currently, X Museum operates a "Pay What You Wish" ticketing policy, where visitors pay admission fees according to their own ability and assessment.
