Artist/Curator Talks

In July 2026, I curated and organized a youth art exhibition in Shanghai for the first time in the role of a curator. In preparation for the exhibition, I sought advice—both online and in person—from many artists, art educators, and professional curators, learning from their curatorial experience. Through this process, I gradually came to understand the different roles played by artists, curators, audiences, and invited guests in the making of an exhibition, as well as the distinct perspectives each brings.

What benefited me most, however, were their unique insights into art and exhibitions, along with the wisdom they had accumulated through long-term practice. The exhibition in July was successfully realized, but I still felt there was more to explore. I wanted to discover a way to preserve the interesting and thoughtful perspectives of the artists and curators I have been able to meet or connect with and to share them with a wider audience who are just as interested as I am.

That is why I conceived and launched Artist/Curator Talks, an interview and conversation series. If an artist is especially expressive and eager to share, we will do a more interview-based format, allowing their views to be presented as fully as possible. If they are more inclined toward dialogue, I will shape the exchange as a conversation—just as I did in July 2026 at the Shanghai exhibition, when I spoke with Mr. Lü, a contemporary artist and psychologist. (Of course, that conversation was not because Mr. Lü was less articulate, but because I wanted more opportunities to elaborate on the theme of our exhibition.)
